JANUARY WEEK ONE
Year fifteen had finally sprung around the corner and Lawrence Kaine had grasped the hopes of riding again after his ankle injury. His last major ride was with Jazzaway before he had retired and some small rides here and there but now he was back in full business and would be riding the juvenile daughter of Studley Dudley named Dudley's Girl. Her first race would be within the first week of January in the January Maiden against other volatile juveniles like Coveted Faith, Like a Lady, and Crooked Intentions. DeeDee seemed to be of the first crop of her sire and she would determine how he would be as a sire. She was out of Tsubasa's Dream a foundation mare.
Joining them in this breeze was Secret's Surprise ridden by Terri Lane. Ursa was now a senior at midst of the 4 year old season, she was a Grade Five filly hoping to mature quite nicely during this season. She would be facing stablemate Get Loose, Spitterfly, and Summer Romance. Ursa was quite the display of a mare and like to show off when needed. Approaching the bay juvenile Ursa sniffed in her scent before looking away Terri loved how motherly her attitude could be but she was quite the pusher on the tracks. "Welcome back Lawrence, first day back and riding a newbie of the season." Terri said before latching the helmet clutch on and started the breeze with confidence.
DeeDee rushed to the lead immediately while Ursa hung back to her using closing status. DeeDee was a newbie and Ursa would guide the young filly while ignoring her rider for a temporary motion. DeeDee rose her ears as she approached the back stretch and kept her pace at a steady ease. Her breathing had been silent and narrow and when Ursa approached DeeDee from the outside the bay filly was unsteady for a moment before looking the chestnut in the eyes. "It's alright DeeDee your alright we got this. Lets see what you got girl...lets go!" Lawrence said as the juvenile picked up speed pulling away from Ursa just a bit.
They both hit the next stride as Ursa began to use up her strength at the end and pull past Dudley's Girl with no issue. The two passed the wire with Ursa winning by a length. Terri smiled towards the efforts DeeDee had done while pushing Ursa at a faster pace. Praising the filly she hugged her neck shortly after and looked to Lawrence. "I can't wait to get back into the race thanks for letting us ride with you Terri." Lawrence stated before trotting Dudley's Girl off the turf track to rest for the race. Dudley's Girl would thrive for her first Maiden race.
